Summary of report content

Healthwatch Rochdale conducted an Enter and View visit to Archmoor Care Home, a residential care home with spaces for up to 20 residents. The visit was carried out as part of a Healthwatch Rochdale’s Enter and View programme.

Key findings included: residents and staff felt the manager of the home provided good support and was very helpful; residents felt that the staff were very good and had the time to stop and chat with them often; residents and their family members felt that staff had a good knowledge of each individual resident and how their needs may be changing; some residents felt there was a wide range of activities that were easy to join in with, however another felt that the activities were limited and boring; residents thought the food was good and staff were observed appropriately supporting residents who needed help with mealtimes; residents had access to visits from an eye care provider, however those asked were less sure about access to a dentist; residents’ personal, cultural and lifestyle needs were accommodated; residents and family members said they felt confident in making complaints and staff were very approachable; all felt that the physical environment of the home was clean, tidy and suitable for residents’ needs, including dementia-friendly signage and a well-maintained garden.

Healthwatch Rochdale made three recommendations around: giving staff members the opportunity to study for their NVQ Level 2; offering additional activities; and having a ‘you said, we did’ board for both residents and staff feedback, to demonstrate how giving feedback can make a positive difference. The report contains a response from the service provider, outlining how they are addressing these recommendations.
