In May 2017 Healthwatch Derbyshire produced a report outlining the ‘Enter and View’ programme which had taken place between June 2016 and February 2017. The report stated that 26 unannounced Enter & View visits had taken place across all of the Derbyshire County Council (DCC) residential care homes.
These visits were undertaken by request of DCC, providing them with an additional independent dimension to their own internal quality assurance systems.
The general feedback from the visits included:
• The services provide a homely, welcoming and comfortable environment
• There was a high degree of satisfaction and confidence expressed by both residents and relatives regarding the commitment, enthusiasm and skills of the staff
• Staff/resident relationships reflected care, sensitivity and respect for each individual
• Staff practices reflected the importance of choice, control, independence and personalisation for residents in their care
The report also provided some of the recommendations which had been made as part of the programme and the actions that had taken place as a result.
