In May 2025, Healthwatch Nottingham & Nottinghamshire carried out an enter and view visit to Annesley Lodge, a residential care home in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire, to understand what the residents thought of the care they received. They collected information from 31 people including more than half of the residents living there on the day, their loved ones, and the staff to gather insights into what works well and what can be improved.
Overall, residents spoke favourably about the care they are receiving, with choice and caring staff being the standout features of the feedback received. Relatives supported these findings, and staff demonstrated a good understanding of person centred care and feel supported and satisfied in their roles.
Healthwatch saw many examples of good practice including the introduction of an aviary based on one resident’s interest, enriching the environment for all. Although the service is providing good care the feedback received highlighted a few areas that could be improved to enhance or maintain the quality of care being provided. For example, some people said they felt lonely and would appreciate spending more quality time with the staff. The team also noticed that although there were a variety of personalised and tailored activities on offer, the schedule was not accessible to all making it difficult for them to know what was happening.
