Healthwatch North Lincolnshire conducted an Enter and View visit to Amber House care home on 9th October 2024. The aim was to assess oral health promotion and access to dental services for residents. Healthwatch spoke to two residents during the visit to Amber House. Additionally, they engaged with staff, management, and other individuals involved in the care of the residents.
Key findings:
- Amber House has a strong oral health policy in line with NICE NG48 guidelines, ensuring residents' oral health needs are met.
- Residents receive regular dental checkups at The Ironstone Centre, with staff supporting appointments.
- Staff are well-trained in oral health, with confidence in identifying and managing dental issues.
- Most residents maintain good oral hygiene with staff assistance, including the use of electric toothbrushes and support with dentures.
- Emergency dental access has been effective, with residents receiving treatment when needed.
Recommendations:
- Continue to follow NICE NG48 guidelines to maintain high standards of oral health.
- Maintain staff training and update policies regularly to ensure best practice.
