Healthwatch Havering conducted an Enter and View visit to Alton House Care Home, a care home with accommodation for up to 23 residents.
Observation by the Enter and View representatives reported that: the home’s kitchen was spotlessly clean; picture menus were available and two choices of meals were offered to residents, with an alternative available if they did not like either; safeguarding and falls incidents were logged and reported to the appropriate authorities; a call bell system was available in bedrooms and both lounges; the home did not employ an activities coordinator, but care staff made appropriate arrangements; new care plans were being introduced with monthly reviews; infection control procedures had been developed; medications were stored appropriately; residents were observed during mealtimes and weighed regularly to ensure that they remained nourished; and all mandatory staff training was undertaken. The Enter and View team spoke to a relative of one resident who was very happy with all aspects of the care given at the home.
Healthwatch Havering did not make any specific recommendations in the report.
