On 19th February 2019, staff and volunteers of Healthwatch Sunderland undertook an Enter and View visit to Alexandra View Care Centre. The centre could accommodate 68 people in total but were caring for 58 residents at the time of the visit who required residential, Enduring Mental Health (EMI) residential, Nursing, EMI nursing or palliative care. Healthwatch staff spoke to residents, relatives and staff to what it was like to live in this Home.
The findings of the report state that there was a strong visible management but staffing level and skills were average; the quality, choice and flexibility around food and mealtimes was also rated as average; a wide range of activities was available for residents with support for taking part in activities outside the home; there was regular access to health professionals such as GPs, Dentists, Opticians, Chiropodists and Audiologists; the residents’ cultural, religious and lifestyle needs were accommodated without making others feel uncomfortable; there was an open environment where feedback was actively sought and used; the home was comfortable, homely, well maintained with high standards of hygiene.
