Summary of report content

Healthwatch Ealing conducted an announced Enter and View visit on 7 October 2025 to 6 Minterne Ave, a mental health living facility for men with high needs and dual diagnoses. The home accommodates up to five residents and is operated by StepUp Care. The purpose of the visit was to assess the quality of care and environment and gather feedback from residents, staff, and management.

They observed the environment to be clean, bright, and well-decorated, with clear fire safety procedures and a suggestion box for community meeting topics.

Residents reported feeling safe and praised the helpfulness and kindness of staff. They also appreciated the variety of activities offered, including art groups, walking groups, film clubs, and coffee mornings, supported by a dedicated activity building with gym equipment and a library.

Areas for improvement included providing residents with information about mental health rights and advocacy services, considering later curfews, and exploring readiness for independent medication management. Staff expressed satisfaction with their roles but requested more online training opportunities. Management emphasized promoting independence through activities and budgeting skills, addressing cultural needs during intake, and managing challenges such as residents refusing treatment or families opposing medication.

Recommendations include ensuring residents are informed about mental health rights and advocacy services, reviewing care plans for later curfews, assessing readiness for independent medication management, offering more online training for staff, and continuing efforts to educate families about mental health and treatment plans.
