Summary of report content

Healthwatch Calderdale undertook engagement with children and young people about their experience of life during lockdown and feelings about the NHS and health organisations’ use of social media.  They spoke to 57 children and young people via Snapchat, Zoom, email and social media.

They created a playlist of songs which young people say reflect their feelings and thoughts about life in 2020 so far.

Research with home-educated children indicated that Government messaging was not appropriate for their age or understood by them.  Engagement with Muslim young people highlighted that there wasn’t sufficient information in community languages.

The research also looks at whether young people sought out NHS messages on Covid-19 via their preferred medium, adherence to social distancing rules, use of the NHS during lockdown, and whether they had had an opportunity to talk about the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on them.
