This report was written by Healthwatch Bolton following feedback gathered over time on electronic health records. A questionnaire was used.
The report was published December, 2016. It is based on survey responses and discussions with local people. A total of 146 people were engaged with.
Overall sentiment was mixed, though the focus of the research was in some ways hypothetical about what would people want and what their concerns might be. People were positive about the idea of a shared electronic record for their health information. On the other hand there was concern about privacy and data security.
A set of recommendations has been made. No response from providers is attached, though this project does not engage with a single provider of services.
Summary of recommendations:
-Inform people of any changes
-Focus on the benefits of adopting an electronic record
-Make technical information about the record system available
-Let people know how about who will have access and how to opt in or out
-Conduct further research to assess wider public view
