In March 2017, Healthwatch Plymouth was approached by the Patient Experience Manager at Derriford Hospital about conducting a patient experience survey in the Surgical Assessment Unit. They devised a survey to which 63 people responded.
Nearly three in five were seen within one hour of arrival, whilst one in ten waited more than 4 hours. Over four in five felt that waiting times were acceptable. Three quarters were kept informed about their treatment pathway.
Over half had not been given any information about the Surgical Assessment Unit before arrival.
Over four in five felt they were treated with dignity and respect by staff.
