Staff and volunteers of Healthwatch Warwickshire telephoned 53 dental practices across the County to understand how NHS patients could access treatment or if they could register.
They spoke with 42 practices and found that:
- While some dentists in Warwickshire North and South Warwickshire were taking new patients, none from Rubgy were.
- Dentists from all the three areas had waiting list for new patients, with a maximum of waiting time between 12-18 months.
- Most of them said that they would refer patients to NHS111 for emergency treatment, however, some offered out of hours service, including weekends and 2 had a dentist on call.
Their work illustrates the picture of what dentistry provision is available in Warwickshire. It also shows that there is a particular issue in Rugby where there are no NHS dentists taking on new patients. Across Warwickshire there seems to be an issue with NHS patients accessing dentistry.
