Summary of report content

As COVID-19 restrictions were eased, a number of local residents who were struggling to access both urgent and routine dental care contacted Healthwatch Barking and Dagenham. 

Healthwatch Barking and Dagenham created an online survey seeking the views of people who had accessed dental services during the COVID 19 pandemic. 12 people took the time to share their views. Healthwatch Barking and Dagenham also conducted mystery shopping calls to 20 dental practices in the borough.

Nine people struggled to find reliable information about accessing their local dental practice, and the majority of people said their dentist had no available appointments. Many people reported that their health was affected by not being able to attend the dentist.

Healthwatch Barking and Dagenham made several recommendations in this report.
