Healthwatch Suffolk undertook research on people’s experiences of the Covid-19 vaccination programme. They analysed 842 pieces of feedback received between January and March 2021 through their Feedback Centre, social media, enquiries and direct contact. Overall, 75% of comments were positive, 12% mixed and 13% negative.
People were overwhelmingly positive about the way vaccination sites were managed. Respondents frequently praised staff for being friendly, professional and reassuring, and many commented on efficient organisation, short waiting times, clear information and good infection control measures. The most common positive themes related to site management, staff attitudes and the smooth running of appointments.
The main concerns related to access rather than the vaccination experience itself. People reported difficulties travelling to vaccination sites, problems with online booking systems, concerns that some eligible people had not yet been contacted, and frustration that national booking systems did not always offer appointments at closer GP-led vaccination sites. Some respondents also highlighted accessibility challenges, including long walks from car parks and waiting in queues.
Healthwatch Suffolk concluded that public feedback on the vaccination programme was largely very positive. Areas identified for improvement included providing clearer information about second vaccine appointments, improving online booking systems, reducing travel distances where possible and ensuring that eligible people are not overlooked during the vaccination rollout.
