Healthwatch Leeds undertook a cost of living check in by speaking to local community groups and people in Leeds from October to December 2022. They spoke to 91 people.
Over two in five were quite worried about the way in which rising prices would affect them over the next few months. People said that the increased cost of living has negatively impacted their ability to access health services, ability to manage their own or others’ health conditions and negatively impacted the health and wellbeing of people who would usually be considered healthy.
Issues raised included the cost of phone calls and internet access to book a GP appointment, the cost of transport to appointments and the cost of treatment, including dentistry and prescriptions, food and heating.
The report has four recommendations about initiating conversations with people about the cost of living, understand who is affected and examining the cost implications of accessing health and care.
