Healthwatch Sandwell decided one of its priority projects for 2023/24 was people's experiences of managing diabetes and their health.  This report looks at the experiences of African-Caribbean people and is based on a focus group which 18 people attended.

The attendees felt that:

There was a need for improvements in health and care services.

There was insufficient information provided on diabetes that was culturally appropriate.

More needed to be done to encourage physical activity for good health

The need for consistency in the diabetes courses offer

There was a need to enable and empower African Caribbean communities to raise awareness of increased risks and influence and educate local communities on diabetes.
