Summary of report content

Healthwatch Cornwall conducted research in 2015 to gain people’s views on community pharmacy services after receiving several negative comments from patients about the service. The team developed an online survey and distributed hard copies at various events. They were able to collect the views of 648 individuals.

The findings indicated that people felt comfortable speaking with the pharmacist about their health problems. One of the main negative themes that emerged from the research was that only a small majority of patients felt they could speak to the pharmacist privately and without being overheard. The report indicated that patients found their pharmacist to be helpful and their prescribed medications were usually in stock.

The report included 6 recommendations and implied that a number of these had already been adopted in community pharmacies around Cornwall. The recommendations were wide ranging and included suggestions for making services easier to access for young people and improving privacy.

The report did not include responses from individual providers, as these were not identified in the report.
