Healthwatch Sunderland conducted a series of Enter and View visits to care homes in 2019. This report is a summary of their findings and highlights the good practice. The results are based on feedback from 168 residents, 185 friends and relatives and 319 staff.
The report found that staff felt they had the appropriate skills to do their job and residents had regular access to health professionals. However, there were some areas of improvement including flexibility around mealtimes and accommodating personal, cultural and lifestyle needs. Good practice was identified through the care homes, such as choice of food, reliable laundry service, and picture menus.
The report is aimed at commissioners and service providers to support continuous improvement amongst all care home services.
