Summary of report content

Healthwatch Liverpool held a listening event at Broadgreen Hospital on 27 November 2018, gathering feedback from 58 patients and visitors across inpatient wards and outpatient departments. Overall, feedback was very positive, with 91% of respondents rating the hospital 4 or 5 out of 5 and an average score of 4.49 out of 5. Patients particularly praised staff, cleanliness and the quality of care, with many describing staff as friendly, caring and helpful.

The strongest positive theme was staff attitude, with patients repeatedly highlighting good communication, kindness and professionalism. Cleanliness was also frequently praised, along with the hospital’s convenient location for local residents. Most patients felt they had been given enough information about their treatment, and a large majority felt staff had enough time to care for them.

The main concerns related to parking, waiting times and staffing pressures. Patients reported difficulties finding parking spaces, concerns about parking charges and the distance from some parking areas to hospital entrances. A small number of respondents highlighted delays for outpatient appointments and inpatient treatment. Some also felt staff were very busy, particularly at night, although even those who raised concerns often remained positive about individual staff members.

Healthwatch concluded that Broadgreen Hospital was highly regarded by patients and visitors, particularly because of the quality of care and positive staff attitudes. Recommendations focused on improving parking arrangements, reducing waiting times where possible, ensuring patients receive estimated discharge dates and continuing to address staffing pressures while maintaining the high standards of care that patients valued.
