Healthwatch Lambeth report on its key achievements for 2019/20. They:
- Led development of the Lambeth Advance Care Planning Consortium, securing National Lottery funding for a three-year programme to raise awareness of advance care planning and develop one-to-one support for local residents to record their wishes for future care and end-of-life support.
- Influenced plans to improve inpatient mental health services by gathering views from patients, carers and staff on the proposed redevelopment of services at South London and Maudsley Mental Health Trust, helping shape consultation plans and highlighting the need for more personalised environments, greater patient control and stronger community links.
- Supported improvements in children’s services by conducting focus groups with social workers and health professionals supporting looked-after children, with findings used to revise staff induction and training and improve communication between health and social care teams.
- Led local engagement on the NHS Long Term Plan, hearing from residents through surveys and focus groups, and highlighting priorities including person-centred care, prevention, early intervention, and better information and support for people with long-term conditions.
- Through Black Thrive, secured major funding for an innovative employment project supporting Black residents with long-term health conditions, using participatory budgeting to give local communities greater control over how resources are spent.
- Strengthened support for people with learning disabilities through the Lambeth Learning Disability Assembly, continued engagement with older people through care home visits and home care research, and expanded opportunities for residents to influence local health and care services.
- Increased public engagement by hearing from hundreds of residents through surveys, outreach and consultations, publishing multiple reports and Enter and View findings, and providing information and signposting support to more than 500 people.
