Healthwatch Haringey report on its key achievements for 2019/20. It:
- Strengthened the voice of adult social care users and carers through the Joint Partnership Board and nine Reference Groups, helping shape services and contributing to the creation of Disability Action Haringey, a new user-led disability charity.
- Improved GP appointment systems at Tynemouth Medical Practice by gathering feedback from 126 patients and making recommendations which the practice adopted, including better promotion of extended-hours appointments and improved use of digital information.
- Influenced the redesign of day services for people with learning disabilities through a review of six day centres. Findings were used by Haringey Council to address transport, staffing and carer support issues and to inform the design of a new day centre.
- Ensured local people influenced implementation of the NHS Long Term Plan by gathering feedback from residents, including people living with type 2 diabetes, and sharing findings with North London health and care partners to inform future planning.
- Continued to provide a strong platform for people with lived experience of mental health services through the North Central London Experts by Experience Board, helping shape mental health planning and the mental health elements of regional transformation programmes.
- Supported residents with information, advice and advocacy, responding to 211 enquiries and helping to resolve issues relating to mental health services, GP registration, palliative care and access to local support services.
- Used volunteer-led inspections and assessments to drive improvements in local healthcare environments, including reviews of hospital signage and participation in Patient-Led Assessments of the Care Environment (PLACE) at local hospitals.
