Summary of report content

The annual report for 2018-19 was published by Healthwatch Bristol which highlighted their achievements for the year and the difference their work has made on peoples’ lives.

The report states that in 2018-19, 1641 people engaged with Healthwatch Bristol to share their experiences of health and social care, which was 128% more than previous year; they had support of 26 volunteers who helped to carry out their work; 640 people accessed advice and information online or contacted them with questions about local support; they visited 198 community events to understand people’s experience of care and made recommendations for improvement; 2 major improvements they suggested were adopted by the services; and 47% more people engaged with them through their website and social media.

Their work has led to trans-health training to be rolled out at a Bristol hospital; raised the profile of Healthwatch in University of Bristol Medical School to introduce the concept of Healthwatch to early medical professionals at the start of their career; helped the public understand primary care transformation; and developed a collaborative walking football and nutrition programme.

Over the next year, Healthwatch Bristol plans to engage with the public to gather their views on the national NHS Long Term Plan and share the findings.
