Healthwatch Surrey spoke to local people with low vision about their experiences of specialist eye care services as well as the information and support they receive between appointments and following discharge. This was part of their work on access to primary care. They poke to 30 Surrey residents at 3 Macular Society meetings and a VisionZone event.
People reported mixed experiences with hospital appointments; issues include rushed consultations and poor continuity of care.
People spoke of significant gaps in practical advice and information.
People experienced poor coordination between services.
People had to rely heavily on family and charities for non-clinical support.
The impact on their daily life was a loss of independence and inability to continue with hobbies.
