Healthwatch East Riding of Yorkshire wanted to feed into an NHS review of healthcare services in Goole. They held two events in the area to talk to local people. They spoke to around 100 people, including staff.
Key findings
- People felt that funding for health services was diverted away from Goole
- Engagement events by the NHS felt like a tick box exercise rather than meaningful consultation
- There were mixed feelings amongst staff about the future of Goole hospital
- People appreciated the services provided currently by the hospital, but were concerned about the future.
- People expressed concerns about appointment bookings at the hospital and being sent for appointments at other hospitals without being offered a choice of location. As a result, they paid more for travel and parking and spent longer getting there.
- People wanted the hospital to communicate with them in plain English, avoiding health jargon.
