Healthwatch Barnsley undertook a project on adult social care following feedback from the public when asked about their priorities. They collected data in a number of ways, including via a survey, enter and views and mystery shopping. They collected data from 35 people.
Survey respondents were most likely to experience mobility problems. Two in five were already receiving social care support. Seven in ten were receiving support from a friend or family member.
The mystery shopping of phone calls found that the staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and using clear language that was easily understood. Each of the callers felt that their situation was listened to and that they trusted the advice given.
The information available on each of the subjects on the council's website was easy to find and well presented. There was also many links to other services, which could provide information or support. The website is well laid out and easy to navigate.
Face to face information was more difficult. After searching online, they could see information and advice offered virtually but no mention of face-to-face support. The volunteers visited the Town Hall and Library@the lightbox, which are both public buildings.
