Summary of report content

Healthwatch County Durham, in partnership with Public Health at Durham County Council, carried out a survey to understand public awareness and use of the Pharmacy First service. The survey ran between May 2024 and April 2025 and gathered responses from 83 people about their experiences with local pharmacies and the service itself.

The results showed that over three-quarters of respondents had heard of Pharmacy First, and half of those had already used it. Encouragingly, 80% said they would feel comfortable discussing a range of health conditions with a pharmacist.

Based on the feedback, Healthwatch County Durham recommended improving privacy in pharmacy settings and strengthening communication between GPs and pharmacists to enhance the overall patient experience.
