Healthwatch Sheffield report on the outcomes of their #SpeakUp small grants programme for 2021/22. They gave grants to 12 groups, reaching 790 people, gaining insights on the following groups’ experience of health and social care:
- African Caribbean perspectives on home care
- Diagnosis and support for children with autism
- Adults with a learning disability
- Children and young people and families in Pitsmoor, Burngreave and Fir Vale
- People living with dementia and their families/carers
- Young professionals managing their mental health
- People accessing maternity services
The report summarises the individual reports and draws out cross-cutting themes including:
- The challenges facing carers
- The need for clear information
- Difficulties navigating the system
- The need for culturally competent care
- Continuity of care and building relationships with key professionals
- A desire to be involved in service improvement
- Communication between services
- Communication from services to individuals and their families
- The importance of community
