#SpeakUp small grants programme 2021 -22 summary report

Summary of report content

Healthwatch Sheffield report on the outcomes of their #SpeakUp small grants programme for 2021/22.  They gave grants to 12 groups, reaching 790 people, gaining insights on the following groups’ experience of health and social care:

  • African Caribbean perspectives on home care
  • Diagnosis and support for children with autism
  • Adults with a learning disability
  • Children and young people and families in Pitsmoor, Burngreave and Fir Vale
  • People living with dementia and their families/carers
  • Young professionals managing their mental health
  • People accessing maternity services

The report summarises the individual reports and draws out cross-cutting themes including:

  • The challenges facing carers
  • The need for clear information
  • Difficulties navigating the system
  • The need for culturally competent care
  • Continuity of care and building relationships with key professionals
  • A desire to be involved in service improvement
  • Communication between services
  • Communication from services to individuals and their families
  • The importance of community
