Croydon residents’ views on the COVID-19 vaccine

During the COVID pandemic Healthwatch Croydon was commissioned through Healthwatch England to conduct a piece of work to understand the public’s views towards to new COVID Vaccine. The project took place from March to August 2021, with 155 people responding. This report summarises the findings.
- Most were positive about the vaccine and to vaccines in general. Protecting themselves, family, friends and vulnerable people were the main reasons for wanting the vaccine.
- Over one in five respondents were Covid-19 vaccine hesitant. Barriers included booking, distance, and time of appointments.
- NHS and government websites were seen as the best source of information about the Covid vaccine.
Recommendations include:
- Ensuring the vaccine is more accessible in a multitude of ways
- Communicating the risks against the benefits in a more effective way
- Continuing conversation with those unsure about the vaccine
- Strategising how to reduce fake and misleading news on the vaccine
- Doing wider studies on specific ages, genders, ethnicities and other demographics.
