Summary of report content

Healthwatch Greenwich carried out a visit to Ashgreen House Residential and Nursing Home in Greenwich to ascertain the quality of life, experience, and views of residents, relatives, and carers.  They had visited the place just before the pandemic in 2020 and had made recommendations for improvement. Their findings were also reflected in CQC’s inspection report in 2021.

  • Although the pandemic was a difficult period for staff and residents alike, Healthwatch found much greater awareness of issues amongst the care home management and the progress to date.
  • However, they identified further areas of improvement which includes greater social interaction amongst residents or between staff and residents beyond personal or medical care. The residents looked settled and content, if not particularly happy.
  • The communal areas themselves/fixtures, fittings and furniture, while clean, looked a little tired – a little dated and fairly basic, but homely and functional.
  • The interactions observed between staff and residents were kind, helpful, and efficient, although Healthwatch witnessed an example of staff being rude to each other and question the impact of such behaviour on the residents.

The report contains eight recommendations by Healthwatch for the care home to address.
