Summary of report content

Healthwatch Brighton and Hove undertook a review of the Equipment and Adaptations Service by collecting experiences and opinions from service users and prescribers of the service.

Findings from the survey of service users include:

  • The length of time waiting for the equipment did not cause any problems for most people, however, some experienced serious problems.
  • The majority (78%) were contacted by the Community Equipment Service to arrange the delivery/collection by a driver.
  • High proportions of people said the driver ‘arrived on the day and time expected’ (93%) and ‘fitted or adjusted the equipment’ (90%). The area of most concern was that 17% said they were not told by the driver how to ‘report a fault or return the equipment’.
  • People had a positive impact of equipment on their lives which included looking after their personal care needs, getting around within their homes and helping them have more control over their daily life.

The report also contains the findings of a survey completed by prescribers who work for Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust, Brighton and Hove City Council and in Adult Social Care.
