Healthwatch Wakefield worked with Wakefield District Council, the Canal and River Trust and NHS Wakefield CCG to find if people who live on canal boats can access a Covid-19 vaccination. They undertook a survey to which 65 people responded.
Eight were not registered with a GP. Over a quarter didn’t know that they could access a Covid-19 vaccine without being registered with a GP.
Over a quarter hadn’t had the Covid-19 vaccine, mostly because they didn’t want it.
Nearly a third had difficulty accessing healthcare whilst on the waterways in Wakefield. GP appointments and Dentists were the top issues identified.
The report includes three recommendations about providing access to information about registering with GPs.
