Summary of report content

Healthwatch Blackburn with Darwen carried out an announced Enter and View visit at Andrews Court Care Home, with the aim to observe services, consider how services may be improved and disseminate good practice.

A team of Authorised Representatives (AR) engaged 2 residents, 2 relatives, and 4 members of staff, in a discussion structured around four themes (Environment, Care, Nutrition and Activities) designed to gather information concerning the overall experience of living at the home. Observations were also recorded.

Healthwatch representatives felt that Andrews Court Care Home was delivering on several fronts, including meal provision, staff attitude, good management in the face of change, and the provision of activities for residents.

Representatives identified several issues with the care home which mostly concerned the environment and condition of the building, noting that both the exterior and interior could benefit from maintenance and improvement. Poor communication between care home management and relatives/friends was also raised as an issue.
