Summary of report content

Healthwatch Knowsley carried out a survey looking at people’s experiences of long waiting times during the pandemic. The survey ran from September to October 2021 and received 244 responses.

This research was carried out in line with the national campaign, following the campaign toolkit and survey template provided by Healthwatch England.

The report reveals that people had most commonly been waiting over a year for treatment. 17% stated they experienced cancellations to treatment either once or more than once, and over half were given no information whilst waiting for treatment. Most respondents were waiting for a consultation (37%) or an operation (29%).

Waiting times had a significant impact on people’s lives, particularly on mental health and pain management. Of those who responded, 40% strongly agreed that delays to treatment impacted their mental health and wellbeing, and 32% experienced increased pain as a result of delays.

No recommendations were made in the report.
