Summary of report content

Healthwatch West Sussex gathered experience-based insight between January and June 2021, via its website, telephone helpdesk, engagement activities and volunteers, and partnerships with community and voluntary sector organisations. The briefing is based on 108 records.

The briefing highlights that many are still unable to access non-emergency or preventative NHS dental treatment in a timely manner. Many people cannot find a dental practice to register them for NHS treatment.

The large majority of records were negative. In over 80% of these cases, access was the central theme. The briefing highlights that people are struggling with long waiting times for routine appointments. It also raises the issue that those who can afford to pay are able to access dentistry much quicker, via private appointments.
