Summary of report content

Healthwatch Blackburn with Darwen undertook an announced enter and view visit to Andrews Court care home on 7 August 2024.  They spoke to o 10 residents, 6 staff and 4 relatives.

Healthwatch previously visited Andrews Court in September 2021, and there have been positive changes to the home since then, and the provider, manager and staff are to be recognised for this.

Healthwatch representatives felt that Andrews Court Care Home was meeting the needs and interests of residents. Respondents spoke highly of the staff and management of the home. The biggest issue facing the home is the environment. Representatives understand the home is an old, converted church, but Healthwatch felt the building needed a refresh.

The representatives on the day were impressed by the caring, calm and professional attitude of the staff in the home. The manager has created a comfortable atmosphere and staff and residents were positive about the management. Residents were very complimentary about the staff.

However poor communication between the home and relatives/friends was raised as an issue, and this was noted to be raised as an issue in the last visit. One relative identified that things had been done differently because Healthwatch were visiting.

Andrews Court has made sure that the residents are comfortable and made to feel like it really is their home.

The report includes a response from the provider.
