Healthwatch Warwickshire undertook an enter and visit on Bracebridge Court on 27th March 2018. A group of four volunteers carried out the unannounced formal visit. The group met with the Manager, to outline the purpose of the visit, go through the visit protocol and gain information about the home. The group then split into two teams to visit the two floors of the home. A brief post visit meeting, to give feedback, was held at the end of the visit.
The visiting team’s observations were positive overall. They found that the building was modern with a good layout and decorated empathetically to respect those with dementia. They found that the building and gardens were well-maintained. Residents appeared to be well looked after, with staff giving them dignity and respect as well as catering to special diets. There did appear to be a higher than expected turnover of staff for a home of Bracebridge Court’s size but that appeared to be stabilising.
Healthwatch Warwickshire made several recommendations for staff and facilities. They noted that staff retention should be improved and good practice for infection control should be re-enforced. For the facilities, they noted that the black sacks should be removed from the garden area and push pins replaced with a safer option.
