Healthwatch Central West London undertook further research into their survey about how the Covid-19 pandemic affected local people’s experience of health and social care to identify the specific experiences of minority ethnic people. 12 people completing the survey (16%) identified their ethnicity as Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic (BAME).

Compared to white respondents, the respondents from minority ethnic groups were:

  • More likely to be on the shielding list
  • Less likely to see a GP
  • More likely to experience income reduction.
  • Not as able to remain indoors
  • More likely to experience emotional and mental health difficulties
  • More likely to be on the shielding list.
  • Less well connected with neighbours and the wider community

The report also looks at mental health and wellbeing, the impact of the pandemic on personal relationships, community networks, social distancing, personal finances, information and communication and housing and environment.
