Summary of report content

Healthwatch Sunderland undertook research on the social media used by care homes to see how they were used for residents and family to keep in contact with each other during the Covid-19 pandemic.  They spoke to or checked the online presence of 47 care homes.

They found that 34 homes were using Facebook and just one was using Twitter.  Of the homes using Facebook, only 14 were posting on a very regular basis.  During their research Healthwatch Sunderland found some vibrant, engaging Facebook posts, including daily ‘Good morning’ posts which included information of what activities residents were looking forward to that day, followed up by posts throughout the day showing photos of residents enjoying the activities.

The report contains 5 recommendations on how care homes can develop and improve their social media output.
