Summary of report content

Healthwatch Leeds report on the feedback and engagement on the pandemic they have done during the final week of October 2020.  They spoke to 118 people.

The main focus of this report is on end of life care.  Healthwatch Leeds talked to the Leeds Bereavement Forum and Full Circle Funerals Bereavement Support.  They reported lack of access to support, people not being able to say goodbye to loved ones or process grief.  People have struggled due to the change in rituals and the lack of consistency in government guidelines in relation to funerals.

The report also looks at the results of survey on older people accessing care during the pandemic. Nearly a third hadn’t tried to contact their GP since March, and of the remainder, 3 in 5 had had problems, including remote appointments and getting through on the phone.  The survey also looked at people’s mood. Around half were worried about two issues – not being able to access health care and about health issues that weren’t assessed under lockdown.  People were worried about loneliness, particularly as Leeds was under tier 2 restrictions.

Leeds also report on the feedback they received.  This includes negative feedback about access to GPs and NHS dentistry.
