Healthwatch Greenwich report on the outcomes of their enter and view visits to residential and nursing care homes during January to February 2020. During this period they visited 10 care homes. All the visits were unannounced. They spoke to 6 Family members and friends, 10 Care Home Managers, 28 Care Home staff members and 40 Residents.
On our visits, overall, Greenwich care homes scored highly on each of the eight Care Home Quality Indicators2 . However, there are areas for further discussion and improvement. Firstly although Greenwich has a very diverse population, this was not reflected in the residents of the care homes they visited. All the homes visited provided a homely rather than institutional environment – the personalisation of resident rooms particularly contributed to this. Whilst there was good practice in relation to creating dementia friendly environments, dementia friendly signposting was limited. Whilst quality of care was good, the activities on offer were sometimes limited.
The report includes three recommendations for the local authority to improve standards of care.
