Healthwatch Wakefield have undertaken research to find out about people’s experiences of health and social care during the pandemic. They wanted to identify what worked and didn’t work, so that services could plan better for the future. This report is based on 249 responses received during the period 4 August to 2 September 2020.
Nearly nine in ten had been in touch with at least one health or social care service during the pandemic, mainly GPs and pharmacies. Over four in five had accessed a service by phone during this period and were mainly happy with their appointment. Nearly one in five had had a video appointment and most were happy with their experience.
The report also looks at the experience of people who needed to keep in touch with a loved one in hospital or a care home; about their experience of domiciliary care and accessing information. When asked which services they would like to continue, people wanted online and telephone contact with services to continue, but also wanted face to face access to remain.
