Summary of report content

This report contains a summary of the experiences of 95 Surrey residents of dentistry, reported to Healthwatch Surrey between May 2023 and June 2024.

The key themes are:

  • People cannot find a dentist accepting NHS patients. Roughly half of the people giving feedback said they had no NHS dentist. Many had given up searching for an NHS dentist and now had no dentist as they cannot afford private dentistry. Those who have sought private dentistry say it is difficult to afford it.
  • Information about dentists accepting NHS patients is not up to date.
  • There is confusion around treatment covered by the NHS and charges for NHS dental care.
  • There are financial barriers to receiving dental care.
