Healthwatch Coventry undertook research into the information about the restart of dental services post Covid-19 lockdown in Coventry in August 2020. They gathered information from dentists’ websites and phoned those practices without websites to find out what services were available. They gathered information from 31 out of 33 local dental practices in Coventry.
25 dentists provided information that they treat NHS patients or some categories of NHS patients. Most of these are taking new NHS patients, but this may be for emergency treatment only.
4 of the NHS dental practices are doing routine dental treatments as well as emergency work and one is doing routine treatment but not scale and polish. 17 NHS dental practices are treating dental emergencies. A further 2 are providing phone advice. The information for one practice was not clear.
10 dentists do not have a dedicated website. The website of one practice was not working.
Information about dental practices should also be kept up to date on the NHS website where there is a find a dentist search facility. However, most entries had not been updated with changes to services post the Covid-19 situation.
