Healthwatch Greenwich gathered feedback from local residents about the impact on health and wellbeing from the planned construction of a new tunnel to link the A13 north of the Thames with the A2 south of the river. They spoke to 112 residents.
Only one in five people had heard about the proposed tunnel before Healthwatch spoke to them. Over 3 in five were concerned about the traffic which could bring additional air pollution and noise, busier roads and more HGV lorries on the roads.
Nearly 2 in 5 had concerns about noise levels in connection with the proposal and over two thirds were concerned about air quality and the impact of pollution, particularly on children and young people.
The report includes 3 recommendations about engaging the local community when making construction decisions and in forming the local authority’s air quality strategy.
