This is Healthwatch Shropshire’s annual report for 2019-20. During this year, they focused on people’s experiences of mental health and well-being including 0-25 services and quality of dementia care in care homes; adult social care looking into discharge and care homes; access to technology, care records and out of hours services within primary care; and community resilience under prevention and social prescribing.
They had 6 staff and support from 23 volunteers who helped them to provide support to 753 people who shared their experiences of health and social care and information and signposting to another 134. They reached out to over 2000 people via face-to-face and community events and published 24 reports with 126 recommendations.
Through their work, Healthwatch Shropshire undertook a case study which looked at the importance of communication at end of life. They also undertook survey about home care and reached out to veterans and serving personnel. They focused on improving mental health support for parents, suicide prevention within the rural farming community, understanding how people access primary care including GPs and pharmacies, and spoke to young people about what they think about social prescribing and how it works for them. They also undertook work to feed into the NHS Long Term Plan.
The report contains a message from the Chief Officer of Healthwatch Shropshire which highlights their plans for next year when they will focus on Mental health for all age groups, prevention and place-based care, acute care and workforce recruitment training and support.
