Summary of report content

On 6th of June 2018, Healthwatch Newham visited the Tissue Viability Service as part of joint quality assurance visits with Newham Clinical Commissioning Group. The Tissue Viability Service focus on non-healing chronic and complex wounds. This includes pressure ulcers, diabetic foot wounds and skin tear. The service operates in three other surgeries which are Appleby Health Centre, Vicarage Lane Health Centre and Centre Manor Park.

Healthwatch staff spoke to three patients on the day of their visit and found that all of them were happy with the service and with the level of care the staff provided. All service users understood why they had been referred to the service and their health plan; felt that their needs were met by the nurses; that they did not have to repeat personal information to the service if they had been referred by their GP; and were regularly informed about the next steps as they had weekly appointments. Overall the patients rated the service as excellent but felt it could be further improved.

The report made no specific recommendation but recognised that the service could be further improved by recruiting more district nurses. There is a response from the provider.
