Healthwatch North East Lincolnshire undertook an Enter and View visit to the Kensington Care Home on 7 August 2019. This was part of a programme to assess the quality of care. Healthwatch North East Lincolnshire spoke to staff and some residents and received responses from relatives to questionnaires.
Healthwatch North East Lincolnshire assessed the environment and décor of the home, safety of residents, quality of care and catering, and how the staff treated residents. They found that the home promotes a welcoming environment, with compliments from residents and their relatives on the quality of the care provided. Many of the home’s residents are from the local area and have been able to retain their sense of community and familiarity. The home has some creative ideas for the use of the outside space and are working towards making this a more inviting and utilised environment. Staff were mostly positive, with all saying that they were adequately trained and supported in their roles with the majority saying that the most enjoyable part of their role was caring for and interacting with the residents.
There were 16 detailed recommendations on information to residents, the décor and furnishing of the home, improvements to the garden and having a structured activities schedule each week.
The report includes a response from the provider detailing the action taken or planned to be taken in relation to the recommendations.
