On 15th November 2019, Healthwatch Oxfordshire undertook an Enter and View visit to South Adult Mental Health Team in Wallingford. Their aim was to engage with patients to understand their experiences of using the services. They also wanted to get a staff perspective on working within the team and to observe how the service operates and provides its services.
The findings of the report state that local Healthwatch team found this premises in a good clean condition and felt welcome. They heard that the team were supportive and hard-working and also had a good working relationship with the local GPs. This had a positive impact on patient referrals and care. However, they were out of date computers which caused unnecessary delays. Also, there were staff vacancies which we're having a negative impact on the team and the patients. They did not capture any feedback from patients during this visit, however, they did collect feedback from staff.
The report made four recommendations, to identify suitable training for admin team; ensure staff had enough training In relation to patients who had learning disabilities; more investments from Oxford Health NHS Trusts in the infrastructure of the IT; and have more meeting rooms in Wallingford. The report contains response from the providers for two of the recommendations.
