Summary of report content

Healthwatch County Durham conducted an Enter and View visit to Ward 6 of the Bishop Auckland Hospital. 180 questionnaires were completed and 21 patients/public were also consulted.

The report found that patients want to be involved in planning their discharge. Patients tended to value the support and care they received on the ward. 80% of patients reported that their needs were fully met on the ward.

The recommendations include that step-down model of care should be retained; take the opportunity to offer all appropriate therapeutic support to patients; to continue delivering holistic support; the Trust should look at the extended length of time some patients are staying on the ward; and use the comments made by patients completing the survey to help shape future services.
