Summary of report content

Healthwatch St Helens carried out an Enter and View visit to Parkside Care Home in April 2019.

The home was found to be spacious with clean, uncluttered decor. There was a lot of space for residents who have problems with mobility. There were pictures on the walls and the home had a welcoming feel to it. There were blankets on the window sills, for

residents to use should they need them and the Enter and View representatives felt this was a nice touch.

There was a lovely outdoor area which backed onto a park. There was a greenhouse, and benches were dotted around the garden. Residents informed the Enter and View representative that they 'always have to wear a hat when we go out in the sun.’ A resident said 'I feel very safe at Parkside’, whilst another said that ‘the best thing about living here is the staff, I wouldn’t change a thing.’ All residents seemed calm, relaxed and well cared for. At the time of this visit, there were nine residents with dementia living at Parkside.

Based on the findings, Healthwatch St Helens made three recommendations for Parkside Care Home:

  1. A photo board in the reception area with photographs, names and job titles of the staff.
  2. Memory boxes outside each resident's room.
  3. Include an image of a toilet on doors as well as the written word.

The report features a positive response from the service provider.
