Summary of report content

Last year, local Healthwatch identified social care as one of the key priority areas for their communities in the year ahead. Here Healthwatch England shares an overview on what people have told us they want from social care in the future.

Respondents to the deliberative research and the national poll highlighted huge uncertainty over how care is funded.

There is a lack of understanding about where to go for reliable information and advice on social care.

People are clear on what they would want from social care, including being able to meet individual needs and the safety of the service.

People are reluctant to think about or plan for potential future care needs

As people get older they are less likely to think they should plan for their future care needs. The best way to encourage more people to plan and consider their care needs would be to simplify and streamline current advice.

People wanted both a single point of contact and localised guidance on care options in their area.
